Latif MAULAN ( b.1974, Malaysia )

Latif Maulan was born and raised in the quiet village of Lebu in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. He had the fortune to be gifted with a unique artistic talent that was first nurtured in his own humble backyard, and later greatly broadened by his travels and work experiences in the USA, Europe and Australia from 2000-2003. Despite Maulan's lack of formal art training, his talent was evident from an early age and soon after finishing school he was offered a job as resident artist at a gallery in Kuala Lumpur. This proved to be a pivotal moment in Maulan's life as he was exposed to many famous artists, and as his knowledge of the art world increased so did his ability and skill.Today Maulan is a celebrated emerging artist in his own country, particularly after the recent success of his exhibition in late 2011 held at the National Art Gallery of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, which demonstrates the prominence of his work.
Before 2006 Maulan's work was solely based on still life and nature that were visually pleasing: "The flowers look so real that you want to reach out and touch them; the fruits are good you feel like eating them". However Maulan's prolificness shows his extended range of subject-matter to include wildlife and nature, portraiture, and scenes from his everyday life. Consequently after his first solo exhibition in 2006, he felt it necessary not to paint just for beauty's sake, but also to convey a deeper message through his paintings. Maulan is hailed as one of the country's fast rising talents and receives great acclaim from his peers and critics, as well as from collectors.
