Jin MAYERSON ( b.1972, Korea )

Jin Meyerson was born in Incheon, South Korea, in 1972. He grew up in Minnesota and was adopted into a Jewish-Swedish family before pursuing his education in fine arts. He received his BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1995, and his MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1997. Jin quickly earned an international reputation through his solo shows at Zach Feuer Gallery in New York and at Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris. He also gained the attention of the art world through "The Triumph of Painting" at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Jin is currently based in New York and London, and is preparing for his solo show at Galerie Michael Janssen Berlin in the spring of 2012.
Jin's work is based on semi-abstractions using visual images sourced from a variety of media, warping and re-organizing them whilst including kaleidoscopic colours. Although his paintings are not completely distorted, impromptu additions make it unrecognizable from what it they used to be, resulting in what he identifies as 'accidental paintings'.
